Accused disappeared before drugs trial

Police have named a man who disappeared the week before he was due to stand trial for the supply of more than $2 million worth of methamphetamine.

Di Wu, a 25-year-old Chinese national also known as Elvis, was arrested in December 2006 following a year-long investigation.

He was due to appear in Auckland High Court for trial on February 16.

Wu breached his bail conditions on February 2, was arrested and held in custody.

However, he was granted off-site access to his lawyers for four hours a day.

On February 8 Wu's lawyer Ron Mansfield told police his client had disappeared.

Wu's name had been suppressed until today as the trial of his co-accused, 25-year-old Chen Wei Huang, went ahead in his absence.

Huang was today convicted on six charges of supplying methamphetamine in October 2006 with a street value greater than $2 million. He will be sentenced on May 8.

A warrant has been issued for Wu's arrest and police are calling for any information on his whereabouts.
