The armed offenders squad is on its way to the Lower Hutt suburb of Wainuiomata following an incident there this morning -- believed to involve a firearm.
An area in the suburb was cordoned off but the nature of the incident was unclear at this stage, Wellington police spokeswoman Victoria Evans said.
Police have closed the Wainuiomata Hill road in and out of the suburb.
