Armed police were called to a Christchurch street after a person was reported to have been seriously injured with a weapon.
The incident on Stanmore Rd in Linwood was reported to police about 11am on Thursday.
“Police responded immediately and one person was taken into custody," Senior Sergeant Craig Ellison said.
“While clearing the address, police have established there were no other parties present and no injuries, and the validity of the report has not been upheld.”
Armed police were seen outside a property on Stanmore Rd and the public was advised to stay away from the area.
