Battle to put out plastics factory blaze

About 60 fire service staff battled a fierce blaze at a Northland plastics factory overnight.

Fire Service northern communications shift manager Paul Radden said staff were called to the fire on Logan St in Dargaville about 9.30pm.

The 16 metre by 25 metre building was well-involved in fire when staff arrived, he said.

In total, 22 fire trucks and support vehicles from around Northland responded.

It took about three hours to put out the blaze.

While no fire service hazardous material units were needed, staff at the scene were cautious, Mr Radden said.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway.
