Hamilton police have found a body in the Waikato River today.
The body was found submerged in the river between the eastern bank and the first pillar of the Fairfield Bridge about 10.45am, Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton of the Hamilton CIB said.
"At this stage we are unable to confirm the identity of the person found other than to say we believe it was a male."
Police have been looking for missing 35-year-old Hamilton father Nicholas "Tommy" Atkins, who had not been seen since walking out of his home in the suburb of Fairview Downs early on July 30.
Mr Thornton said a formal identification was likely to be completed today, followed by a post-mortem examination.
The Coroner would determine the cause of death.
