Body found in West Auckland

A body has been found in a stream, a week after Auckland man Adam Tan was last seen.

The 22-year-old illustrator disappeared early on Monday last week after he ran away from family as he was being admitted to Waitakere Hospital's mental health unit.

His sister Cindy Tan told the Herald on Sunday that he allowed himself to be admitted and was saying goodbye to his family before he ran away.

Police said today a body was discovered in West Auckland's Central Park Drive around 10.30am.

The body was found by a member of the public in a stream at the back of Trusts Stadium.

A formal identification process was underway and police were unable to confirm the person's identity, including if the body was that of Mr Tan, until the process had been completed.

A further update was expected later today.
