Cyclist killed in collision with truck

A female cyclist died when her bike went under the front of a truck on Christchurch's Lincoln Rd this morning.

Police said initial inquiries had found the truck and cyclist were both travelling towards the city on Lincoln Rd when they collided near the intersection with Domain Terrace about 6.40am.

The cyclist died at the scene.

Black Horse Hotel duty manager Josh Mckenzie, who works near the crash scene, said the bike had gone under the front of the truck.

"I didn't witness it myself and police had it cordoned off pretty quickly," he said.

"The bike ended up under the truck and it got pretty mangled. I saw the bike underneath the truck when I was walking to work - it went under the front of the truck."

Mr Mckenzie said the crash scene was about 20m up a side-street leading into the former Sunnyside Hospital.

He said an elderly man collapsed and fell off the footpath while walking past the crash scene. The man was treated by ambulance staff.

Police closed Lincoln Rd in both directions, between Annex Rd and Lyttelton St, while they investigated the crash.

The road had reopened by mid-morning.
