Veitch was found by police, reportedly in a highly distressed state in northern Waikato, before being reunited with concerned friends and family who had alerted emergency services to his disappearance.
Veitch, 35, was last week fined $10,000, placed on supervision for nine months and ordered to do 300 hours of community work after pleading guilty to injuring former girlfriend Kristin Dunne-Powell with reckless regard to her safety in 2006.
He had been due to appear in court next week for a depositions hearing to decide if he would go to trial.
Two Sunday newspapers reported today that Veitch had contacted them after being reported missing, pleading for them to publish an email he sent to Ms Dunne-Powell months after injuring her.
The email contained statements including; "Good luck with your future...again I say with utter sadness how sorry I am for all that happened," the Herald on Sunday reported.
The Sunday News also said Veitch had contacted a reporter via text message.
Veitch's wife, Zoe, yesterday said her husband was under a huge amount of stress following the court case and huge public interest, and asked for space.
"It has now reached a level where it is intolerable and I am begging that both media and public back off. Enough is enough and let us at least attempt to move on and get Tony well."
Veitch's spokeswoman Glenda Hughes said he was struggling with the fact some people appeared not to believe he was genuine in his remorse for what had happened.
She told the Herald on Sunday Veitch had reached breaking point over public perception of him and the latest controversy over references provided by public figures to assist with his sentence.
Former squash champion Dame Susan Devoy provided a testimonial to Veitch, believing it would be used in an application to get his passport back.
However, it was also used a character reference when he appeared in court, without Dame Susan's permission.
She has since expressed her disappointemnt over the issue.
Police are not commenting over yesterday's events.
