Fire at Stratford power station

The fire service has contained a blaze which broke out at a Taranaki power station.

Firefighters were called to the Stratford Power Station on East Road at 9.30pm yesterday after the "lagging", heat-insulating material, covering a gas turbine overheated and caught fire, a fire service spokesman said.

Six fire trucks were sent to the scene and the fire was put out.

However firefighters were checking for any lingering "hot spots", he said.

No injuries have been reported.
