Four people died in two separate car crashes in the North Island last night.
Two people were killed in a two-car crash near Wellsford, north of Auckland.
It happened just before 9pm on State Highway 1 in Topuni.
Police said two people died at the scene and a child was taken to Starship Hospital in a serious condition.
Another seriously injured person was taken to Auckland Hospital.
Earlier, two people died in a single-car crash a few kilometres west of Hawera, in the Taranaki district, around 8.30pm.
