Gang member still at large after shooting

A teenage Black Power gang member, alleged to have shot his Mongrel Mob neighbour in the northern Hawke's Bay town of Wairoa on Sunday morning, remains at large this morning.

The 42-year-old Mongrel Mob member was shot in the shoulder and police, including the armed offenders squad, are looking for a 19-year-old Black Power member.

The victim, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to Wairoa Hospital for treatment to his shoulder and pellet wounds to his face, then transferred to Hastings Hospital.

Detective Sergeant John McCarthy, of Wairoa, told NZPA today police were yet to find the suspect.

Members of the armed offenders squad patrolled the streets for a second night and there had been no further violence, Det Sgt McCarthy said.
