Investigation into discovered bodies

Southland Police are investigating the discovery of the bodies of two men and the wreckage of a boat near Breaksea Sound, Southland.

The bodies of both men had been formally identified and inquiries were continuing with next of kin after yesterday's discovery.

The names of both men would be released once extended family had been informed.

As part of their enquiry, police were interested in the movements of the FV Marina in and around Breaksea Sound.

They would like to hear from anyone who had been in contact with occupants of any other vessels in the area on Friday afternoon.

People with any information could contact senior constable Grant Nimmo on 0211 915 162.

The matter was being referred to the coroner but further details were expected tomorrow.
