Man arrested for Hastings murder

A 44-year-old Hastings man has been arrested and charged with the murder of Douglas Bruce Apperley last month.

Mr Apperley, 59, was found dead at his Townshend St house, in the Hastings suburb of St Leonards, on April 16.

A post mortem examination indicated he died from stab wounds to the chest and serious head injuries.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave de Lange today said a sickness beneficiary, currently living the Kapiti/Mana area, would appear in Porirua District Court this afternoon charged with Mr Apperley's murder.

The men knew one another and had lived in the same neighbourhood, Mr de Lange said.
