Man critical after Wairarapa crash

A man was critically injured when his car rolled several times before hitting a power poll in the Wairarapa last night.

An ambulance communications spokesman said the crash happened on the Masterton-Castlepoint Road about 7.50pm and cut power to the immediate area.

The man was trapped in his car for about 30 minutes as lines were draped over it.

He was taken to Masterton Hospital in a critical condition.

Also last night, a 48-year-old man was left with multiple fractures and head injuries after his van and a bus collided in Pirie Street, in Wellington's Mt Victoria.

He had to be cut free from his car and was taken to Wellington Hospital.
