A 25-year-old man is in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital after the car he was driving crashed into a tree in south Waikato this morning.
Shannon Morris, from Arohena, was found by a passing motorist trapped in his car about 6.44am on Owairaka Valley Road, Wharepapa South, 48km southeast of Te Awamutu.
He was flown to Waikato Hospital and was in a critical condition.
Mr Morris was the sole occupant of the car.
It was wet and foggy during the night and speed and poor weather appeared to be a leading factor in the crash, Sergeant Warren Shaw said.
The serious crash unit was investigating.
