A man is in hospital after the stolen car he was driving went over a cliff in Christchurch early today.
Emergency Services were called to the scene about 1.20am when a Diamond Harbour resident reported a car had gone over a cliff at Purau Bay, inspector Michael Coulter of southern police communications said.
When police arrived they found the vehicle on the waterfront.
The sole occupant was airlifted to Christchurch Hospital to be treated for moderate injuries.
Mr Coulter said the car was later reported stolen.
