Man killed in crash with truck named

Police have released the name of a man killed in an early morning head-on crash in rural Waikato yesterday.

He was Troy Edward McLeod, 39, of Thames.

Mr McLeod was the sole occupant of a car that collided head-on with a truck on State Highway 2, near Maramarua, at 4.10am yesterday.

Inspector Leo Tooman said the cause of the crash had yet to be established but speed was not believed to be a contributing factor.

"While the investigation is in its early stages, about the only we can say is how important it is that motorists remain on the correct side of the road, it's only a thin lick of paint that separates oncoming vehicles and as we've seen it you get it wrong the consequences can be tragic," he said.
