A 20-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the kidnapping and the indecent assault of a 6-year-old girl in West Auckland on New Year's Day.

Name suppression was also lifted for Tim Horne, 20, when he appeared in Waitakere District Court this morning, Newstalk ZB reported.

He pleaded guilty to both charges against him, admitting he grabbed the 6-year-old girl after befriending her and two other children at the entrance of Glendene Avenue Park.

She suffered scratches in the assault.

Horne ran off when the child's mother responded to her screams.
