Man remanded on bank robbery charge

A 43-year-old man accused of robbing a Rotorua Westpac Bank teller of $1400 cash appeared in the city's district court this afternoon.

Craig Blair, of Tauranga, did not plead to the charge of aggravated robbery and was remanded in custody until Monday.

Yesterday morning it was reported a man waited in line at the bank before approaching the teller, saying he had a gun in his bag and demanding money.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Loper said the man was given some cash and he left the bank.

About 10 minutes later he walked into the Rotorua Police Station to hand himself in. The cash was recovered.

No gun was found, Mr Loper said.
