Maori battalion uniform inspired fashion winner

A design inspired by the Maori Battalion uniform has won the main award at Style Pasifika Fashion show at the Vector Arena in Auckland last night.

Kiri Nathan from Mt Wellington, Auckland won the TVNZ Supreme Winner award.

Her entry, made of organza, wool, feather and cotton knit, was inspired by a photo of her grandfather in his Maori Battalion uniform.

The awards were presented in front of an audience of thousands, including Prime Minister Helen Clark.

This was the fifteenth year of the show.

The judges this year included Liz Mitchell, Francis Hooper of World, Tony Milich of Sabatini, Des Rusk of Barkers and Pacific Advisor Mary Ama.

The TVNZ Supreme Award winner receives $3000 and two tickets on Pacific Blue to the Pacific Islands. The Westfield New Zealand Runner Up receives $2000.

Each of the ten category winners receives $1000.
