The 11 pictures, posted by Perpignanpatty, were described as being "more racey than a racehorse", The Dominion Post reported.
Carter briefly played club rugby for the Perpignan club in France before suffering an Achilles tendon injury in February.
The pictures apparently included a "raunchy at-home striptease" and would have the New Zealand Rugby Football Union "squirming", Perpignanpatty said.
The auction was posted at 7pm yesterday, but were taken down by website staff at 9.40pm.
A site spokesman said the auction was removed because Perpignanpatty operated multiple memberships on the site in breach of the site's rules.
It was also likely the auction was a hoax as there was no evidence on the auction site that the pictures existed, the spokesman said.
The New Zealand Rugby Union was not available for comment last night.
