NCEA results available online

Hopeful secondary students today found out how they fared in last year's NCEA exams as results became available online.

NCEA level one, two and three results were published on students' New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) login at 6am today.

Results would then be mailed out in a couple of weeks, NZQA said on Twitter. Scholarship results would be released mid-February.

More than 143,000 students submitted a total of 1.58 million entries across 373 standards during the NCEA external examinations last year, NZQA said.

The 2011 results were the first to include course endorsement, which recognised students' high achievement in individual courses, NZQA Chief Executive Karen Poutasi said.

The 2011 NCEA results also included applications for earthquake impaired derived grades from Christchurch students affected by the earthquakes during the year.

"For the earthquake impaired derived grade to be applied a student had to attend their external examinations and make a realistic attempt at answering the questions. If this process was followed the student would receive the better of their exam result or the derived grade submitted by the school on the basis of performance through the year,'' she said.

Most students met this requirement, but a small number did not make a realistic attempt to answer the exam questions so did not meet eligibility for the derived grade, she said.

Following the return of marked papers, from January 24 onwards, students had until February 17 to apply to appeal for earthquake impaired grades, and for reviews and reconsiderations.

New Zealand is the only country in the world to return marked exam papers.

National statistics on NCEA results would be available from late March.

Many Twitter users have this morning been saying they have been getting locked out of the website though as they try to log in and see their results.

NZQA said if this was the case they needed to phone 0800 697 296.
