Power lines in Canterbury were being repaired last night after a helicopter hit high tension lines in Rolleston, near Christchurch.
The crash happened while the helicopter was aerial spraying in Boundary Road, about 8.30pm, southern police communications inspector John Doherty said.
After hitting the lines, the helicopter landed safely and took off again.
Mr Doherty said power to some properties had been cut, but it was not clear how many had been affected.
The local power authority had been called out to repair the lines.
Police had spoken to the pilot and the matter had now been referred to the Civil Aviation Authority.
