A woman found dead on a Waikato road this morning may have been the victim of a hit-and-run, say police.
The body of the woman was found on State Highway 24 near the intersection with Garland St on the outskirts of Matamata at 5.30am, Detective Sergeant Rod Carpinter said.
A woman had been seen walking south along SH24 at around 1.30am and police were asking anyone who saw her to come forward, Mr Carpinter said.
Police also wanted to here about any vehicles which had sustained damage since last night or were seen in the area, he said.
"It's important that we speak to anyone who knows anything about a vehicle, or any incident involving the deceased woman," he said.
The woman is yet to be identified.
