The blaze badly damaged the Gloucester St property where the woman lived.
A witness to the fire said the woman was "absolutely heartbroken" and had been taken to hospital for a check up.
Gloucester St is closed between Barbadoes St and Fitzgerald Ave and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Fire and Emergency spokesman Simon Lyford said three fire crews are at the scene.
FENZ received multiple calls to the fire, just after 8.45am on Wednesday.
