The widow of slain Auckland taxi driver Hiren Mohini says life has been emotionally hard since the trial began of the man accused of murdering her husband.
Hiren Mohini, 39, was stabbed to death in Mt Eden on January 31, last year by a man he picked up in Auckland city.
Chinese kitchen hand Zhen Xiao was arrested after fleeing to China few days later.
He stood trial in Shanghai this month for murder, telling the court he did not mean to kill Mr Mohini.
New Zealand police said today that there was still no verdict.
It is the first time in New Zealand legal history that a man has been tried in another country for a killing committed in New Zealand.
New Zealand authorities were given an assurance Zhen would not be executed if he was found guilty by a panel of three trial judges.
Falguni Mohini said since the trial began, it had been emotionally very hard on her and her daughters, Hetvi, five, and Yashvi, seven.
"I am trying to do my best for my girls," she told NZPA
She said Yashvi was very upset. "She is seven years old so she understands what is going on."
Mrs Mohini said she was getting good support from around the country, particularly from the Indian community and people she did not know. She said she wanted to thank them all.
"Yesterday a Kiwi guy called up and said 'I am very much concerned and very much worried about your daughters and how you are coping'. I am very thankful to all of them."
