Top traffic cop quits

One of the country's most experienced road traffic policemen has quit, saying he has had enough of carnage on the roads.

Sergeant Stu Kearns was head of Auckland's serious crash unit and attended more than 1000 fatal crashes in 28 years on the job.

He said his health had suffered from years of attending fatal accidents, late night calls and dealing with the aftermath of death on the roads.
