Police have named a man who died after the car he was in crashed into the back of a stationary truck near Maramarua, in north Waikato, yesterday morning.
Bruce Graeme McCallum, 69, from Thames, was a front seat passenger in the car when it crashed on State Highway 2 near the intersection with SH25 to Thames, about 80km southeast of Auckland, about 5am.
The car driver and rear seat passenger were airlifted to Waikato Hospital and remained in a serious condition, Sergeant Juliet Burgess of Huntly police said.
Police were keen to speak to anyone who saw the crash, she said.
"We know that one truck driver stopped to assist at the scene, but we would also like to speak to any other motorists who may have seen the crash happen," she said.
