Christchurch police have launched an investigation after a middle-aged woman was seriously injured in the central city early today.
The woman was found near the end of Durham St about 4.30am, Christchurch Central CIB Detective Sergeant Craig Farrant said.
She was taken to Christchurch Hospital with serious head injuries.
Mr Farrant said the woman had not yet been identified and the investigation was centred around how she received her injuries.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact Christchurch Central police station, he said.
