A truck has broken down across both lanes of the Haast Pass, causing the road to be closed.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) advised of the incident, on State Highway 6 near the Gates of Haast bridge, shortly before 5pm.

NZTA said the highway was closed between Haast and Makarora, and there were no detours.

“A tow truck has been dispatched to assist but may take some time to reach the area and clear the road.”

Road users were advised to delay their journey.
