Prince Harry doesn't do things by halves.

And now he can always tell his friends that he went for a swim in sub-zero Arctic waters.

The red-haired prince took a running leap into frigid waters on Wednesday wearing a bright orange immersion suit as part of his trip in support of wounded war veterans.

He is joining a trek of wounded servicemen in his role as patron of the Walking With The Wounded charity.

The goal is to raised 2 million pounds ($NZ4.2 million) through donations and sponsorships.

The money will be used to help wounded British servicemen find work and security.

Harry plans to leave the group on Friday. The others plan to continue to the North Pole.
