Fun day for children at Ivon Wilson Park

Fiordland celebrated 2017 Children’s Day on Sunday, March 5.

Southland District Council, Kids Restore the Kepler, Fiordland Kindergarten, Southern Stars Early Learning Centre, Te Anau Plunket, Fiordland Conservation Trust and the Department of Conservation who teamed up once again to encourage families to enjoy time together in the outdoors.

“Playdate with Nature” was held in brilliant weather conditions at Ivon Wilson Park in Te Anau. The park was alive with the sounds of excited children as they explored nature.

There were 13 stations to explore: Adventure Ropes, Camp Cooking, Mud Kitchen, Seed Planting, Bug Station, Piko Piko Making, Mystery Station, Art with Nature, Fun with Flax, Music with nature, Footprint Detectives, Sausage Sizzle, Flying Fox.
Te Anau Librarian Jo Mann said “There were up to 35 volunteers on the day, including 20 Fiordland College students.”

“There were up to 250 people involved in a day full of nature activities and they all gained great memories from the day”, she said

Children’s Day is considered an annual national day to do something special for the young people. It has been running since 2000 and is held on the first Sunday of March each year, and happens all over the country.
