Queen’s Award Achievement

Janet Hollard, of Otago, along with other young women from throughout New Zealand, was recently presented with her Queen’s Award Certificate from Her Excellency Dame Cindy Kiro at Government House in Wellington.

At a dinner function for the recipients and their families’ the young women were presented with their Queen’s Award badges.

The Girls’ Brigade Queen’s Award is a two-year programme of demanding work which includes six months voluntary community service, two initiative tasks, an assignment and attending a national assessment weekend.

Janet completed her voluntary service working at Breakfast Church, her initiative tasks were:

  •  Dessert Night Fundraiser
  • Master Chef Night

And her assignment was: Art -An Exploration of Acrylic and Watercolour

Open to young women aged from 15 – 25, it is an international award of the highest merit and recognises qualities of leadership, dedication and excellence in areas of community life.
