The jury in the trial of David Bain has been told that the rifle used to kill five members of the Bain family had sharp and very recent fingerprints in blood belonging to David.
David Bain is accused of murdering his parents and three siblings in Dunedin in 1994 using a .22 rifle.
Kim Jones, a police fingerprint technician based at Christchurch, told the High Court at Christchurch told he examined the rifle on June 21,1994 and again a few days later, Stuff website reported.
He told the court fingerprints in blood were located on the right hand side of fore-end of the stock as though someone had put a hand over the top of the rifle's stock from above.
Other areas of hand or finger contact were on the rifle but were not suitable for further identification.
The fingerprints found matched David Bain's fingerprints from four fingers from his left hand, Mr Jones said.
