Buy-a-thon a Rotary first

An ‘‘accessory extravaganza'' is the best way to describe Cromwell Rotary's upcoming fundraiser, chief organiser Sally Angus says.

The Belts, Brooches, Bags and Bling Buy-a-thon fundraiser next week is the first of its kind organised by Rotary. It aims to raise money for the Life Education Trust and various other community projects.

Mrs Angus said the evening would be a good chance for people to view a wide range of crafts from across the district without having to travel.

‘‘It's about bringing together some of the unique artisans in the Central Otago community to provide an opportunity for people to see a whole range of arts and craftspeople in one spot,'' she said.

The buy-a-thon will feature anything from jewellery, glassware and linen, to beads, flowers and preserves.

‘‘We think it will probably appeal mostly to women, but men will not be turned away. They could come and buy for their women of course.

‘‘It's a pampering night, so people can come and buy little treats for themselves, or buy special things to give as gifts for other people.''

The ticket price will include a glass of mulled wine, nibbles and musical entertainment from local buskers. Coffee, cake and raffle tickets will be available throughout the evening.

Mrs Angus said if the fundraiser went well, Rotary would look at making it an annual event.

- The Cromwell Rotary Belts, Brooches, Bags and Bling Buy-a-thon will be held on Friday, August 8, from 7pm-10pm in the Goldfields Primary School Hall, Gilling Pl, Cromwell. Tickets are $15 and are available from Cromwell Pharmacy, the Cromwell Bulletin office in the mall, or by phoning Jean Morgan on (03) 445-1130 or 027 228-0278.
