Sometimes it is the second-hand stuff that fits the best.

A children’s clothing swap, run by SuperSkills in Alexandra, has thrilled families preparing for the changing seasons.

Swap co-ordinator Ann Conder said it was the third time the group, formerly known as SuperGrans, had run the exchange.

The drop, swap or grab event was about keeping good quality clothes in circulation and easing the strain of rising costs.

On Saturday tables were laden with hats, clothes accessories and even maternity clothing.

Alexandra resident Camille Parker was there with her seven-month-old son Rorimata who was enjoying trying on hats.

The swap was a "really beautiful offering", Ms Parker said.

New, hand knitted items were also on offer but for the first time had a small price to cover the cost of wool, Mrs Conder said.

SuperSkills were in the process of organising a sponsorship for wool and would be grateful for donations of wool yarn their knitters could turn into garments and blankets.

Any items left at the end of the day were distributed to wherever there was a need, Mrs Conder said.
