The Central Otago District Council will decide how to manage more than $400,000 in debt from Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) after the Otago Mayoral Forum later this month.
Following the Otago Regional Fire Authority’s switch to Fenz, it owed $426,988 to the Central Otago council and more than $1 million in total to Otago councils.
Council corporate services executive manager Bernard Murphy said because the setting up of the authority was a regional initiative, a collective regional approach to the debt management would be sought at the Mayoral Forum, which will be held on May 25.
