Jet ski racers in action

Jet ski racers from throughout New Zealand will converge on Lake Dunstan tomorrow for round two of the 2008 Jet Sport Winter Endurance Series.

The event is being organised by the Southern Jet Sport Club, which also hosted the first round of the annual series, on Lake Waihola.

Race director Steve Amende, of Dunedin, said three races would take place on the Clutha arm of Lake Dunstan, near Lowburn, from 10am.

About 50 competitors are expected, depending on the weather.

At least three New Zealand champions would participate in the Lowburn round, which would comprise a 45-minute race for stand-up jet skiers, and two 45-minute races for competitors sitting down on their machines.

Mr Amende said although there would be a high calibre of competitors, it was difficult to predict a result until the day.

"Some people prefer a frosty day when the water is dead flat and others have machines which perform better in choppy conditions."
