A St John spokeswoman said the emergency call was received at 12.28pm. The man had moderate injuries. Highlands Motorsport Park chief operating officer Josie Spillane said the man, who was a member of the Highlands Club, crashed into a wall while driving his own vehicle around the track.
He was the only occupant and she declined to say what kind of vehicle it was.
"He was conscious and talking and has been taken to hospital just as a precaution, for a check-up," she said.
There would be an "in-house" debriefing on the incident at a later date.
"We have regular first response drills and everything went as it should, but we’ll do an assessment later to see if there’s something we could’ve done differently."
No outside agencies, such as WorkSafe, would be involved, she said.
The $31million park near Cromwell opened in March 2013 and is owned by entrepreneur Tony Quinn.
Members of the Highlands Club pay a joining fee and annual fee, which varies depending on how many track days they want to have. They can bring their race or road cars to use on the circuits.
