No decision has been made yet on the possibility of charging campers a fee for using lakeside sites in Central Otago this summer.

Land and Information New Zealand (Linz) deputy chief executive Crown property Jerome Sheppard confirmed last month the charge was being considered for Lake Dunstan campsites, but said any decision would be made in agreement with the Central Otago District Council and other stakeholders.

Linz and council representatives met last week but no decision about the charge was made, a Linz spokesman said.

The spokesman said the meeting was "constructive", and Linz and council representatives would meet again in four to six weeks.

Council chief adviser Dr Saskia Righarts said Linz was the "lead" on communication about the issue, and council had no further comment at this stage.

The Lake Dunstan sites include Bendigo, Lowburn and Champagne Gully.
