An "internationally acclaimed" Chinese stage show is coming to Alexandra this month, partly thanks to the sister-city link between Central Otago and the Henan province, Central Otago Mayor Malcolm Macpherson says.
"The Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington, the Christchurch Town Hall and the Memorial Theatre in Alexandra - it's quite a coup for us," he said.
About 120 performers and support staff from the Shaolin Spectacular will stage a performance in Alexandra on October 28.
The theatre can cater for an audience of 360 and Dr Macpherson expected tickets to sell quickly.
"It's martial-arts based but much more than that; a spectacular show more like ballet than martial arts and something you'd never see outside of China," Dr Macpherson said.
