Central Otago’s most historic winery has opened a wine-tasting experience in Gibbston near Queenstown.

Dr Stanley Paris, who heads the family- owned Monte Christo Winery, near Clyde, which was started by Frenchman Jean Desire Feraud  in 1864, is pictured by the new cellar door in Coal Pit Rd.

In a stone building which formerly housed Rockburn Wines, the cellar door is designed for visitors to Queenstown who do not have time to visit Central Otago.

Dr Paris, a noted entrepreneur, adventurer and philanthropist, also owns the nearby Gibbston Tavern.
