Alexandra police have warned they will not tolerate any intimidation of witnesses in court cases, after an incident at the Alexandra District Court yesterday.
Sergeant Ian Kerrisk said a 47-year-old Alexandra man had been arrested and charged with intimidation because of his actions towards a witness in a court case.
The man will appear in the Alexandra District Court on Wednesday to face the charge.
"I wish to make it clear that witnesses are an integral part of the justice system and we will not allow them to be intimidated by any person, " Sgt Kerrisk said.
"People are entitled to call evidence at a court case and witnesses are an integral part of that and we will not tolerate them being subjected to intimidation."
• In an unrelated matter, a 31-year-old Cromwell man was arrested yesterday after an incident outside the court.
The man will appear in court later this month to face charges of disorderly behaviour, using obscene language, assaulting police and resisting arrest.
