Hundreds of native New Zealand birds are expected to be displayed at the jubilee, which takes place on June 16 and 17 at the Drill Centre in Oamaru. Club treasurer Tony Knight said he expected it would be a colourful event.
"There will be birds from all over the South Island and a few judges coming from the North Island.
"The judges will be looking for shape and colour. Tail-feathers, especially with the big birds - they are looked at to see if they are up to scratch."
Although judging categories would include rednecks, finches and parakeets, Mr Knight, a 20-year bird-fancying veteran, said the largest number of entrants would be in the budgerigar class, with as many as 500 "budgies" expected.
