Government officials hope to brief Tokomairiro High School management next week on the findings of a lengthy investigation into serious allegations laid against staff of a school-funded training scheme.

The Tertiary Education Commission (Tec) has spent the past five months investigating claims by a former tutor that the Tokomairiro Training scheme was run by incompetent managers who allowed an environment of alcohol and physical abuse to become rife among staff and young trainees.

Accusations of financial mismanagement were also laid against scheme funded by the school, which receives Tec money to provide training programmes.

A Tec spokesman yesterday said it was hoped the school and Tec officials would sit down next week to digest the report, although no date had yet been confirmed.

He could not say whether Brian Crawford, the former tutor who originally made the allegations, would also be briefed on the report's findings.

Local interest shown in the report was appreciated, he said.

It is still not clear whether its findings will be made public.
