Celebrations turn 10

An event which started in a small way to recognise Waimate's Edwardian architecture and heritage has survived to celebrate its 10th anniversary this weekend.

The event started with an Edwardian Promenade in Seddon Square, after the establishment of the Waimate Edwardian Heritage Group, with former Waimate mayoress Sandra Coles as its president throughout.

Having grown to spread over a weekend, the event will comprise a soiree on Friday night, promenade and picnic on Saturday, followed by a Grand Tour formal dinner, then a church service on Sunday.

An early settler's cottage in Parsonage Rd built by the Lane Family in 1879, which is being restored by the group, will also be officially opened at the weekend.
