A new studio/gallery has opened in Oamaru's historic precinct featuring exclusively New Zealand made art craft and design.
The Lazycat Pottery and Tileworks is located in Oamarus Historic Precinct and is an addition to this regenerating area where some of New Zealands best artists and artisans are gathering taking advantage of the great spaces and Victorian ambience.
The owner Vaughan Tessier-Varlet is a ceramicist and specialist tile maker with 20 years experience in ceramics having spent extended periods of time working in France and the UK.
This large special space created in the old Sumpters exchange building allows him to work and exhibit from the same space, and members of the public can watch tiles being decorated in a traditional fashion.
However the designs may not be so traditional.
It's not just about tiles though many other artists and craftspeoples' work is featured.
The gallery/studio seeks to be innovative in its environmental impact using recyclable packaging where possible and seeking to resource everything locally to the the benefit of both the local economy and environment.Ithe studio is open 7 days a week from 10am-5pm.
