Peebles women Carol Gibson (left) and Adrienne Borrie display corrugated iron poppies recognising the 10 soldiers from the lower Waitaki Plains who lost their lives in World War 1.

The women created the poppies for the Anzac Day service at the Papakaio cenotaph.

Each has a plaque dedicated to one of the soldiers, which includes their name, rank, unit, detail of where they were from, where they served and the date and place of their death.

The imposing poppies are made from recycled materials.
