Multiple burglaries in Oamaru: ‘Don’t delay’ calls, police say

Police in Oamaru are urging the public to contact them immediately if they see suspicious behaviour.

The message comes after five burglaries in the North Otago town in the past week.

Senior Sergeant Jason McCoy said on the night of Friday, July 23, steel was taken from a yard in Pukeuri-Oamaru Rd, but the incident was only reported to police on Tuesday last week.

Snr Sgt McCoy, of Oamaru, said the public should be vigilant and not hesitate to contact police immediately.

"We’d love for people to call us at the time of any suspicious activity on 111. If it’s looking unusual don’t delay — we need to know," Snr Sgt McCoy said.

"We’d encourage neighbours to be watching for suspicious activity."

Last Monday, people tried to break into a garage in Till St, and the same morning, firewood was stolen from a yard in Oban St.

That night, a vehicle was damaged in Tayward St, and on Tuesday computer items were stolen from a home in Frome St between 11am and 1pm.
