One person was taken by ambulance to Oamaru Hospital with minor injuries on Monday after another crash on State Highway 1 near the Moeraki Boulders turn-off.
About 2.45pm, the driver of a northbound rental vehicle, attempting to turn right into the Moeraki Boulders turn-off, failed to see a southbound vehicle and drove into its path.
The male driver of the southbound vehicle was taken to Oamaru Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, while the mother and daughter in the rental vehicle were unharmed. Both vehicles sustained minor frontal damage.
SH1 was reduced to one lane for about 40 minutes following the crash.
There have been two fatal crashes between the Katiki railway overbridge and the Moeraki Boulders turn-off this year and Monday's incident was the third minor crash along that stretch of SH1 this month.
Senior Sergeant Jason McCoy, of Oamaru, said police had spoken to the New Zealand Transport Agency, highlighting their concerns about the stretch of SH1, after which arrows were painted on the stretch of road.
Police received several complaints about motorist behaviour around Waitaki on Monday as holidaymakers made their way home after the long weekend, Sgt Woodbridge said.
Complaints were mostly about people driving too fast, crossing the centre line when it was not safe and dangerous overtaking manoeuvres.
